When people say "I'm locked out of my laptop," they're describing two completely different problems — and knowing which one you have decides everything about how (and whether) it can be fixed.
The 10-second test
When does the password prompt appear?
- After the Windows logo, on a normal-looking sign-in screen with your name or email on it → you have a Windows lock (a local login password or a Microsoft account lock). This is by far the most common situation.
- Before Windows ever starts — a plain text prompt on a black screen, sometimes mentioning "system disabled" or asking for an administrator/supervisor password → that's a BIOS (firmware) lock.
If it's a Windows lock: we remove those every day
Windows login passwords, forgotten local accounts, and Microsoft account lockouts are exactly what Laptop Lifeline does. The process is mail-in and flat-rate: order online in about two minutes, get a prepaid USPS Priority Mail label by email within two hours, ship the laptop in a free Priority box, and we unlock it 24–72 hours after it arrives — with your files, programs, and settings untouched. Every order includes a free malware scan and a proof-of-recovery video, and it's covered by our money-back guarantee: if we can't unlock it, we refund your full service fee.
If it's a BIOS lock: honest answer — we don't service those
BIOS/firmware locks are set at the hardware level, vary widely by manufacturer, and are not a service we offer. Be careful with the internet's favorite "fixes": master-password generator sites rarely work on modern machines, and pulling the CMOS battery does nothing on most modern laptops because the password survives in non-volatile memory. Opening the case to jumper motherboard pads without experience is how working hardware gets damaged. For a genuine BIOS lock, your best route is the laptop manufacturer's support line with proof of purchase.
The good news: true BIOS locks are rare
Unless someone deliberately set a supervisor password, the machine came from a corporate IT fleet, or it was remotely locked, you almost certainly have a regular Windows lock. If you're not sure, don't guess: text us at (580) 219-5787 or email a photo of the screen you're stuck on — we'll tell you straight which lock you have and whether we can help, before you pay anything.
